14 Proactive Leading Indicators for Occupational Safety, Health and Wellbeing

Pete Kines, senior researcher at The Danish National Research Centre for the Working Environment (http://nfa.dk/) will discuss and present the international development of 14 proactive leading indicators for safety, health and wellbeing in the workplace.

Pete visited SÄKU in Malmö back in the spring of 2019 to talk about his research on Zero Accident Vision (ZAV) and the Vision Zero initiative, introduced and developed by the International Social Security Association (ISSA). During 2019-2020 Pete and his fellow researchers have been busy with a project funded by ISSA about key performance indicators (KPIs), in which SÄKU members were also asked to provide input and evaluate drafts of the fact sheets. The project was finished in the fall of 2020 and provides a set of 14 fact sheets relating to Vision Zero proactive leading indicators to measure and manage safety, health and wellbeing at work, regardless of industrial sector or company size.

The “output result” from the suggested 14 proactive leading indicators can be presented both qualitatively and quantitatively, depending on company size, and be relevant for both KPIs, and national and international benchmarking.

As the project is connected with ISSA’s Vision Zero initiative, the idea is that the indicators are linked to the Vision Zero-strategy and its 7 Golden Rules (see picture below):

1. Take leadership – demonstrate commitment
2. Identify hazards – control risks
3. Define targets – develop programmes
4. Ensure a safe and healthy system –be well-organized
5. Ensure safety and health in machines, equipment and workplaces
6. Improve qualifications – develop competence
7. Invest in people – motivate by participation

On February 10, 2021, we are happy to welcome Pete back to SÄKU, albeit digitally and not in Malmö.

At this webinar, Pete will present the concepts behind the 14 proactive leading indicators, and how they can be used and measured. The webinar will also provide some interactive parts with the participants using online polling tools.

The webinar is free for SÄKU members. For non-SÄKU members the registration fee is 300 SEK plus VAT per attendee. The fee applies if you register for the event but do not attend.

When applying to the event, you will be registered in a Registration Form. When register, you agree to have you name and email address printed on an attendee list that will be handled out to the attendees during the event.

The information in the Registration Form is only used for compiling the number of participants and to gather information regarding allergies/food preferences among the attendees. The information is saved during a two month period, and will then be anonymized. If the registered person is not on the SÄKU mailing list, the person will be added. 

When applying to the event, the registered person agrees to have their voices and perhaps themselves recorded in a video during the event, if such a recording will be made. The video recording is made with a learning purpose in mind and will be published at the member page on the SÄKU webpage. The video recording is only intended for SÄKU members.
