What?

How do decision-making relate to Serious Injuries and Fatalities (SIF)? Who impacts the occurrence of SIF events and what you can do to further improve? What impact does decision-making have on culture? At this webinar, Filip Coumans presented us with the Krause Bell Group's approach and perspective on these matters.

Krause Bell Group started a study in 2015 aimed at better understanding how decisions at all levels within the organization impact SIF events. Together with 6 multinationals, Krause Bell Group reviewed 60 actual serious injuries and fatalities, with the aim of understanding:

  1. Who (what level) in the organization makes decisions that impact SIF events?

  2. When are those decisions made relative to the time of the accident?

  3. How do decisions brake down?

  4. What types of cognitive bias influence decision-making?

Since then, Krause Bell Group has worked with multiple organizations, using this methodology expanding their database to more then 300 SIF events, and close to 5 000 decisions from 43 organizations in 39 countries.

Filip Coumans shared the principles of the Safe Decision Making® Methodology, as well as the main findings they have from their work with those organizations.

As always, the audience also got the chance to ask their questions.

The webinar was held in English.
